Dear Friends, Supporters, and Community Leaders,

Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and generosity in considering a gift to St. Croix Foundation for Community Development. Formed after the catastrophic destruction of Hurricane Hugo (which devastated St. Croix in 1989), St. Croix Foundation is a 501(c)3 foundation that knows and demonstrates well the complex community rebuilding and restoration efforts required after a natural disaster.

In the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, St. Croix Foundation acknowledges the difficulties facing St. John, St. Thomas, and St. Croix over the coming months, and we appreciate your willingness to support the relief effort- an undertaking that will be required on all three islands. Initially, core support will be directed to addressing the basic needs of individuals and families directly impacted by the storm. And, as the secondary impacts of the storm unfold, we are equally committed to supporting the transition of hundreds of displaced students and families who are currently being (re)settled on St. Croix.

Through the CARE (Caribbean Assistance and Relief Effort) Fund, St. Croix Foundation will use contributions and funds to support both immediate and strategic needs throughout the USVI.

Below please find some examples of how the CARE Fund is being used at this moment:

  1. Strategic Philanthropy: The Foundation has organized as a platform for donors to give, and in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, we now know that this community will require substantial resources for St. Croix to continue responding to the overwhelming needs on St. Thomas and St. John. These funds will support the health and human service organizations, medical providers, schools, and social services that will be needed across the USVI, and on St. Croix especially, as it becomes a haven for displaced residents. Donors are also invited to contact the Foundation directly for donations larger than $1000.
  2. Foundation Outreach: We have already reached out to a number of philanthropic organizations on St. Thomas and St. John to explore ways in which a collaborative and responsible effort can contribute to restoration initiatives.
  3. Community Convening: St. Croix Foundation has hosted a series of community meetings to develop a coordinated Hurricane response strategy and to prioritize how organizations and businesses on St. Croix can responsibly support the hurricane relief effort.

Our islands and the families that live here are resilient, and we know that our mission, combined with your thoughtful gift, will put forth our best effort to make communities feel safe, especially in the aftermath of a very active 2017 hurricane season.

We appreciate your support, and we look forward to a region-wide recovery.
